Preacher's Wife and I took a few days off to do some camping along the Guadalupe River. We met our long time friends John and Janet Magee from the Rio Grande Valley and spent 5 days together at Camp Huaco Springs in New Braunfels, Texas. The weather was just right. It was in the mid 80's during the day and the low 60's at night. We rode motorcycles, shopped the Hill Country and some in our group tubed the River. But mainly we did nothing but relax, enjoyed catching up on old times and of course eating. It was fun but now we are back to busy weekends until Christmas. Oh, by the way, did I mention that we are having another grandchild? Yes, Marlie and Andrew are having their first little boy Logan Allen Thomas on or around November 17. So you can bet that I will find time to get to Fort Worth around Thanksgiving.

Preacher's Wife and I found it difficult to just sit and watch the news about our Texas family on the Gulf Coast who are in a state of devastation because of Hurricane Ike. We decided we could do more than pray, we could give money to help our sister church in Houston LRC who have many families and friends who are in dire need. There are so many worthy agencies that do a wonderful job during crisis like this, but we just wanted to make it personal since the scriptures say to do good to all and especially to those of the household of faith (Gal.6:10). We personally know the Pastor and the people there, and we have confidence they will put the money to good use in helping people. In fact, they are already helping many, but in every crisis resources soon come to end. If you would like to help please go to the link above (LRC) and on the right side of the website is a button that says DONATE. If you would rather do it through Preacher's Wife and me give me a call at 210-218-4173 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Everyone doing something helps. It is so right to be generous. The scripture does say, "...do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Would you consider helping us help them.

Our son came to visit this week for a couple of days. We really enjoyed hanging out together. On Monday afternoon we decided to play a round of golf. Though he is a serious golfer he has learned to have fun while playing the game. Now I have always been an outdoors type of guy but golf has never been my game. On Monday afternoon September 8, 2008 at 4:30 p.m. on the 5th hole at the Silverhorn Golf Course in San Antonio, Texas, I officially resigned from ever playing golf again. By the 5th hole I had lost count of how many golf balls had disappeared from my bag. I was sore from my wrist to my shoulders. It became the most expensive golf cart ride I have ever taken. I will leave it at this or I will become what I despise ... a big whiner. So Monday was a beautiful day and I thoughly enjoyed being with my son on the golf course. The 6th through the 18th hole was fantastic. I became quite an accomplished chauffeur. One last note... My clubs are for sale.

I just want to know one thing? Who said she wasn't vetted properly, and exactly what criteria did they use? Let's go over it one more time. She is a lifetime member of the NRA. She hunts and fishes. She is a hockey mom with 5 children. And now this...
